IntroductionThe Moulton Adventure Group is a non-profit making, voluntary, youth group, based in the village of Moulton in Cheshire. We cater for age ranges from 8 - 18 year olds. They are spilt into two sections, the Eagles (8 - 11) and the Adventure Unit (11 - 18). Our capacity is around 24 people per section. ProfileThe Moulton Adventure Group is a voluntary youth organisation for boys and girls based in the village of Moulton, Northwich. Members are drawn from the local community and from the surrounding area. It has a Constitution, Audited Accounts and is a Registered Charity. (Registered Charity No. 510-065). The Group was formed in October 1969 by Geoff Crompton and Les Burgess and was originally based on the best aspects of the Boys Brigade, the Scouts etc. To this day, the aims and objectives of the Group remain largely unchanged, although more recently the content has evolved to encompass the needs of young people in this present age, without losing the original emphasis on "Adventure". The Winter Session commences in early September and during this time the Group is generally limited to indoor activities, including some merit awards (some members of the DofE group are progressing through the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme), drill, first aid, safety and physical education. This Session concludes at the end of March with our Annual Display and Inspection. All parents are invited and the occasion is usually officiated by a local dignitary. The Group becomes more involved in outdoor pursuits in the Summer Session, including canoeing, climbing and walking, giving members the opportunity to put into practice the skills developed during the Winter Session. During this session we hold our Annual Camp, a week in the outdoors with the emphasis very much on team work, coupled with self-reliance. The Moulton Adventure Group possesses its own Headquarters in School Lane, Moulton. The building houses the range of equipment necessary for the Group to carry outs its activities, including tents, canoes etc., that has been accumulated either new or second hand, during its 30+ years history. To raise funds and its profile in the local community, the Group regularly conducts sponsored activities and, so far, has aided the NSPCC, the local Church and the village of Moulton, the latter by conducting sponsored litter tidies in the village. Group MangementOFFICERS OF THE GROUP These are all unpaid, voluntary members of the public. Click here to see the Staff Page At present, the ratio of children to adults is approximately 5 : 1. SUPERVISORY QUALIFICATIONS Moulton Adventure Group has a number qualified first aiders and most members of staff have completed courses on child welfare/supervision and health education. On the activity front, we have many years of experience in running the activities we offer, some of our staff hold professional qualifications in Mountaineering, Rock climbing and Canoeing. COST The cost of subscription is £1.00 per evening attended, with reductions where there are more than one, attending from each family. There will be additional costs for uniforms and for night out, for example ice skating. Summer Camp generally costs in the region of £90 per child per week, which includes food, activities, transport and insurance. The Moulton Adventure Group is divided into three sections:- THE EAGLES The Eagles meet on Thursday evenings from 7.00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. This Group is lead Laura Wilson. The Eagle Section caters for young people between 8 and 11 years of age. It is a mixed sex group with the focus very much on smartness, punctuality, public service, agility, self-awareness and, of course, adventure. The Eagles activities include a little drill, merit awards (first aid, safety etc.) and a variety of games. THE ADVENTURE UNIT The Adventure Unit meets on Monday evenings from 7.30 p.m. until 9.15 p.m. and is Lead by Louise Hubbard. The Adventure Unit encompasses 11 to 14 year olds and has been divided into manageable age groups working towards Certificates of Competence. Although the regime and the uniform etc. is more relaxed for this Group, the objectives are very much the same as the others but with a stronger emphasis on the undertaking of more adventurous activities. Activities include climbing, abseiling, canoeing, walking, swimming, orienteering, debating, quiz nights, music, drama, board games, physical training etc. Trips out include ice skating, go-carting, bowling etc. THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S AWARD GROUP The Adventure Unit meets on Monday evenings from 7.30 p.m. until 9.15 p.m. and is Lead by Mike Hubbard. The DofE Group encompasses ages 14 years plus. It's main aim is to provide the facilities and motivation for young people to progress through the nationally recognised Duke of Edinburgh’s award. In between working towards their DofE the young people will join in the activities offered to the Adventure Unit. Those members who are 18+ and who show an aptitude for voluntary youth work are offered the chance to become staff officers in the group.
